Military Moms of Texas Holds Annual Operation Green Santa December 11 Benefiting Local Military and their Children

Texas organization plans family-friendly appreciation event and toy run in Austin. Event will begin with procession from 200 motorcycles and 20 escorts. Event will feature kids activities, real locomotive kids train, clown balloon artist, live music, food, bounce houses, and Santa.

Austin, TX – December 5, 2011 – Military Moms of Texas (http://militarymomsoftexas.org) a non-profit organization that supports U.S. military personnel at home and during deployment, as well as their families, is holding its second annual Operation Green Santa on Saturday, DECEMBER 11TH, from 12 PM to 3 PM at Camp Mabry, our local Austin military base at West 35th Street, in Central Austin.

According to Tracy LaPorte, founder of Military Moms of Texas, “The purpose of Operation Green Santa is to raise toys and funds for local military families in need during the holidays.” Military Moms of Texas ships holiday packages and Christmas trees bound for local military personnel serving overseas away from their families during the holidays. “The focus of Operation Green Santa is to provide toys by holding a large toy run to Camp Mabry held in conjunction with many area motorcycle groups. When funds allow we also adopt as many families as possible who have signed up and are in need this holiday season,” says LaPorte. The holiday season for families of deployed service members can be a difficult one. Military Moms of Texas supports these local families in a variety of ways to provide some holiday cheer. “Operation Green Santa is an opportunity to provide the local Austin community with a family event to remember the sacrifices our services members and their families make for our freedom,” says Angela Roberts, President of Military Moms of Texas. Military Moms of Texas still has families in need of full holiday adoption that can include gifts, Christmas tree, and holiday meal.

This is the second Operation Green Santa organized by Military Moms of Texas. LaPorte notes that, “Many of the troops serving overseas or stationed locally appreciate the comfort of knowing that their families are taken care of, especially during the holidays.”

LaPorte, whose son, had a year-long deployment in Iraq, says she hopes Operation Green Santa will attract all families from around Central Texas interested in having a fun time while also giving back. “We have a full event and appreciation day lined up. A special thank you to AMRG’S Mark and Kati Spears, Austin Police Department, and Cowboy Harley who will lead a procession of motorcycles to kick off the event. They will be departing from Cowboy Harley in South Austin at 11AM and arrive at Camp Mabry by noon. The event will be fun for the whole family including food provided by Emo’s Riverside, music, a tree for adopting families and donation stars, pictures with Santa, and kids can help make Christmas cards that will be sent to troops stationed all over the world. To participate in the event, bring your driver’s license to enter Camp Mabry along with two unwrapped toys.

Military Moms Of Texas will honor a special representative as they do each year with a book engraved and then placed in the Round Rock library, Councilman Tony Dale will be delivering an introduction. Sponsors of Operation Green Santa include ArmedZilla, Cowboy Harley, Fitness In Motion, Emo’s, The Mary Dale Law Firm, Texas Association Of Vietnam Veterans, Mr. Randolph Clawson from AT&T Veterans, Covert Cadillac, The Mary Dale Law Firm, Great American Storage, Dave Manzer – Creative Relations, Hill Country Bible Church AMRG, SAAME, JC TRAINS, Fabulous Working Ladies, and many more contributions. Local Group Assists Soldiers at Home, Overseas
Military Moms of Texas

With Texas ranking number one in total military recruits and number two in Iraq war casualties, the need for a strong support network is crucial. When local Army mom Tracy La Porte watched her son deploy, she recognized the importance of finding like-minded people to share the daily struggles of having a loved one overseas. In October 2009, she formed Military Moms of Texas, a group that provides a support for its members and Texas Soldiers. The organization, which is in urgent need of donations, prepares care packages, collects food for military families, welcomes home and sends off troops, assists wounded warriors, and tends to the needs of our Soldiers.

This month, Military Moms of Texas is seeking financial assistance to help the head Chaplain in Iraq after a special request. Chaplain Oliver said the need for care packages for soldiers on dangerous missions is a great need. Some Soldiers are still without basic necessities, which the chaplain is willing to personally deliver if donated, and without family to support them. Military Moms of Texas is reaching out to local families, businesses and organizations for assistance in helping provide for these brave adopted troops. The organization represents the entire central Texas community through generous donations to those that fight for our freedom.

Military Moms of Texas will also provide continuous support through the Deployed Night Out program. It will feature local businesses and organizations that provide Soldiers with various certificates to entertainment venues, dining, and much more.

“It’s our way of saying thank you,” Tracy LaPorte, the founder of Military Moms of Texas, said. “Giving our soldiers a night out when they are deploying, returning home or during R&R—it helps them to know how important they are to us and gives them a sense of normalcy to cut loose and have fun.”

To get involved and help this immediate request by Chaplain Oliver in Iraq, please mail your donations to: Military Moms of Texas, P.O. Box 1627, Round Rock, TX, 78680.

Locals Unite to Give Hope to Soldiers and Families
Military Moms of Texas

[INSERT CITY/TOWN], TX – With Texas ranking number one in total military recruits and number 2 in Iraqi War casualties, the need for a strong support network is inevitable. When local Army mom, Tracy La Porte, watched her son deploy she knew she needed to find like-minded people to share the daily struggles of having a son overseas. When she began her search for such a network, there was little to be found. In October 2009 she formed Military Moms of Texas, a group that not only provides a support for its members and Texas soldiers, but also prepares care packages for soldiers, collects foods for military families, welcome home and send off our troops, assist the wounded warriors, assist in deployment and tend to the needs of our soldiers, and more.
This month, Military Moms of Texas is excited to announce the launch of their website, MilitaryMomsofTexas.org. Here, military friends and families can find a support group among other military families and support our troops through organized community activities. This website is also a resource for military news and other support groups and resources. Local businesses can also show their support, and donate with confidence, as 100% of donations go directly to helping our soldiers. Some of our many activities include sending care packages, partnering with local schools to send holiday cards, sending off and welcoming home troops, partnering with other local organizations to provide soldiers with affordable entertainment during R&R and much more!
